Environment
and water
One of the rare causes where local, physical work genuinely moves the needle.
Bengaluru’s most local problem
Lakes that once recharged the groundwater are built over or filled with sewage. Borewells go deeper each year and yield less.
Groundwater rejuvenation is a stated priority for Lions District 317A this year, and a member of this club, Lion G V Shet, chairs the subject for the whole district.
What we do
-
Tree planting
Native species along roads, in school grounds and parks around Konankunte, with a commitment to maintaining them. Planting a sapling and walking away is a photograph, not a project.
-
Lake and area clean-ups
Volunteer drives to clear waste from local water bodies and public spaces.
-
Rainwater harvesting and recharge
Supporting recharge structures in schools and public buildings, so rain goes back into the ground instead of into a storm drain.
-
Awareness in schools
Because habits set early last longest.
The member who chairs it
Lion G V Shet carries this subject for every club in 317A.
A district chairperson carries the cause across the whole of District 317A, not only his own club. For Lions Club Konankunte, that member is its charter president, Lion G V Shet, mjf.
Our work so far
Lions Club Konankunte is compiling the dated record: how many trees went in, and how many clean-up drives were run. It will be published here, counted and correct, rather than estimated.
The next drive
Join the next planting or clean-up.
Dates are set a few weeks ahead. Ring the club and we will tell you when and where the next one is.
